How do you say...It's pronounced "Yock-i-gainey'. The locals refer to the river simply as the Yough (yock). Youghiogheny is an Algonquin word meaning "a stream flowing in a contrary direction". The river flows from West Virginia north to Pennsylvania where it connects with the Monongahela River.
